By: Jackson |Just a quick mention that the Green Whites will be participating in the four-club Radyospor-Cup along with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Turkish Süper Lig sides Bursaspor and Galatasaray. Werder will play Bursaspor on January 10 with Bayer 04 Leverkusen facing Galatasaray the following day. Winners of the match will meet on January 13 in the [...]
Werder climb above Wolfsburg at the break
By: Jackson |The Green Whites completed the tumultuous first half of the season on a up-note as they defeated Wolfsburg 2-1. With the victory, Werder nudges about Wolfsburg at the break on goal differential and sit a point behind Schalke 04, with BVB a full three points in the distance. With notable absences of Claudio Pizarro, Diego [...]
a final word just before start of Wolfsburg match
By: Jackson |The lineup cards for Wolfsburg visit of the Green Whites has been released and Thomas Schaaf has put out an inspired lineup today. I’m looking for great things with Said Husejinović, Aaron Hunt, Mesut Özil and Markus Rosenberg on the pitch together and very pleased to see Sebastian Prödl get a chance to show his [...]
need to tighten up against Wolfsburg
By: Jackson |As the Green Whites finish off the first half of the season against Wolfsburg they know they have a tough task ahead but one that three-points is an absolute necessity. At tenth place with only twenty-three points Werder is in need of a victory to close the gap between the final European spots if not [...]
Green-Whites head to UEFA Cup
By: Jackson |The Green Whites advance to the UEFA Cup on the avails of a 2-1 victory over Serie A giants Inter Milan at Weserstadion.
Werder definitely had something to prove after the disappointing weekend loss against KSC and showed significant ambition in the first half but were unable to break through till after the break. Finally, [...]
“we will be working tirelessly to that end”
By: Jackson |The Green Whites have one last chance to make it through to the UEFA Cup as Inter Milan comes to Weserstadion. Sitting in last place of Group B, the Champions League has been a horrible failure for Werder as many considered they were in the easiest group for advancement. Hopes for advancement require a victory [...]
Round two of player lunacy
By: Jackson |As I expected the Deutscher Fußball-Bund disciplinary board cracked down on Diego for violent conduct against Christian Eichner near the conclusion of the Karlsruhe SC match with a four match ban.
He will now miss Bundesliga matches against VfL Wolfsburg, Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
As with Claudio Pizarro’s display, that rightfully was given [...]
Claudio Pizarro’s last minute lunacy
By: Jackson |Claudio Pizarro’s last minute lunacy against Karlsruhe SC has drawn him a three match suspension from the Deutscher Fußball-Bund disciplinary board. As the 1-0 loss wound down, Pizarro had an altercation with KSC’s Martin Stoll and was shown the red. While unfortunate for Werder fans, this was the only choice for the DFB.
In a related [...]
KSC hands Werder tough loss
By: Jackson |Riding the wave of optimism after soundly defeating Eintracht Frankfurt, the Green Whites were dealt a 1-0 defeat at the hands of a tough Karlsruhe SC squad. To some the end result is a surprise but this should be expected from KSC as they have shown in successive weeks against Bayer Leverkusen, Energie Cottbus, BVB, [...]
build upon Frankfurt
By: Jackson |As the Green Whites face Karlsruhe SC the test will be of-course to build upon the 5-0 victory over Frankfurt and hopefully put the October slump behind them.
Thomas Schaaf said of todays match:
“It’s important that we put on another strong performance following the game against Frankfurt. We can’t afford to let up now, we must [...]
