Hark! Pizarro Saves the Day

Before this match, looking at the starting line-up, I remember thinking “Pizarro has been kind of quiet the last couple of matches”… so what a time to pop up with a brace, eh? We needed an 85th-minute Claudio goal to sneak by Nacional with a score of 2-3 and take three points.

I was only able to follow the match through the Europa League website after ALL online streams pooped out right before half-time, but once I saw that Nacional had scored a goal, I knew the equalizer would come. And I was correct. But the number 24 came through in the end, showing what a reliable player he is for the team.

Özil did sit this match out – he wasn’t even on the bench. Rosenberg did make his return on the bench but didn’t get any playing time.

As to the match itself – like I said, I didn’t get to watch but about 30 minutes of it – were Werder any good? I was a bit distracted by the fact that they looked like orange highlighter pens zooming around the pitch. Wiese made a good – yet almost dangerous – save that had the ball bobbling literally along the goalline. Shortly after the Nacional goalkeeper made a save with his crotch. Impressive.

Bremen now sit second in Group L on goal difference, as Athletic Bilbao brushed aside Austria Wien 3-0. It’s not a bad start. If anyone remembers the start of the Uefa Cup run last season – I wasn’t even sure we’d get past AC Milan and we were dangerously close to being knocked out, but the team kept their heads together and got the result.
