Match Preview: Bayer Leverkusen vs. Werder Bremen
By: Jamie | September 19th, 2009
Our last encounter with Leverkusen is a pleasant memory – it won us the DFB Cup. It wasn’t entirely unexpected – both teams were frustratingly inconsistent in the Bundesliga, but Bremen were on a high from great Pokal and Uefa Cup runs. But this time, Leverkusen are the ones on a high. They’ve started the season very well, sitting in second in the table on goal difference. I thought they would encounter difficulty without Patrick Helmes, but Stefan Kiessling has stepped up well in the absence of his strike partner. This will be a difficult fixture for Werder. I doubt we’ll be able to prevent goals but hopefully we can knock quite a few into Adler’s net.
Unfortunately, we will have to mount an attack without Mesut Özil, who is still out with a knee problem. Daniel Jensen has returned to training but is not named in the squad at Leverkusen.
