Mission Completed!

Another win. This one wasn’t as narrow as the result looks like. Werder had a complete domination through the game. Especially in the first half. A lot of chances, couple of mistakes from the both sides that could cost them three points today. And in the end, the better team won.
So luckily Almeida was available and Fritz recovered and they were able to appear on last night’s match.
4-3-1-2
Werder Bremen: Wiese; Fritz, Mertesacker, Naldo, Pasanen (1′ sh Tosic); D.Jensen, Frings, Borowski (28′ sh Andreasen); Diego; Sanogo (19′ sh Rosenberg), Hugo Almeida.
On the other side, Delio Rossi made a few changes in the team, more or less expected.
4-3-1-2
Lazio: Ballotta; Behrami, Stendardo, Zauri, Kolarov; Mudingayi, Meghni (6′ sh Del Nero), Mutarelli; Manfredini; Rocchi (37′ sh Tare ), Pandev (25′ sh Makinwa)
The game…
An opened game. Both sides attacked with Werder being more successful. They also dominated the game, and as I said, especially in the first half. Diego was a monster. He was everywhere. And Lazio’s tactic was to bring him down with fouls (I don’t blame them), which they did as much as they could. Naldo and Mertesacker fell asleep 2 or 3 times which could have cost the team some points. Luckily Wiese was here to save the day. I have to give them credit for stopping Pandev though. A lot of created chances that could have been used better. But in the end the goal is achieved.
The goals…
In the 28th minute the score was opened. Frings passed the ball to Jensen, Jensen to Diego, Diego managed to put in a through ball for Sanogo who had a little tumble with the ball through the defense, passed the goal keeper and shot between the legs of Valon Behrami to make it 1:0.
The second goal came in the 54th minute after a Fritz cross from the right side. Almeida had no markers around him and no problems to put it in the net and secure a victory so important.
Manfredini gave Lazio fans a little hope in the 82nd minute. After a Kolarov free kick, the ball was punched by Wiese back in the danger zone where Manfredini was and shot as powerful as he can to make it 2:1.
In other news…
Which are kinda old…
- AS Roma, Werder Bremen, Sevilla and Monaco are the first to get invitations to join the G14. Invitations will also be sent to 50 other teams who have preformed well recently (and/or have a good financial status).
- Diego could be on his way out to Roma or Milan. And if he could choose it would probably be Roma. As he said: “I follow all the Serie A teams and I particularly like Roma because they play some exciting football. They are one of the best teams in Europe”.

The must-win win for Bremen. They still face an uphill battle with very difficult away matches against Lazio and Olympiacos. But things are looking good for them ATM. Yet, the scorelines like 3-2 against Berlin or 2-1 don’t reflect their strength and dominance. They give up too many easy goals late in their games. Could come back to hurt them.

By the way, the UEFA vodcast this week had an interview with Thomas Schaaf

Hugo Almeida looked sparkling for the National Team a few weeks ago as well. He’s a beast, period. Hmm “period.” seems kinda redundant, but you get my drift.

Italian teams need to keep their bloody paws off of Deigo. Actually, make that every team needs to keep their bloody paws off Diego. Ours. OURS.
