oh it isn’t that cold
By: Jackson | January 5th, 2009The Green Whites got back to training and while someone on the club web-site whimpered about it cold, making a big thing of some players running in shorts outside it was slightly below zero. I better hold back my comments but whimpering like that bothers me and for Footballers, who hasn’t played in colder weather?
Well enough of that but apparently with Werder back to business, the first step were fitness tests and while they have not made them public, my (very) “inside source” told me that he felt the aerobic capacity (as defined by VO2 max) of the clubs typical lineup was the reason for much of the problems in the first half of the season. This makes a great deal of sense as work-rate has been an issue and an obvious issue given the inconsistent play not only from match to match but within different segments of the match.
Thomas Schaaf said of the start of the training:
“We are all very motivated, looking very much forward to the next couple months. We know that we can play better and want to show that. I am looking forward to the preparations, even though we know that not everything goes perfectly in these weeks. But itβs our intention β despite all obstacles and injury concerns β to find a rhythm and quickly bring the team up to speed.”

Jackson, that is surprising β the players are out of shape? So, the defense could not simply keep up with the attackers rushing the goal?
