Scousers looking to Hunt?

By: Jamie | October 6th, 2009

Sorry, everyone, I’ve been so busy that I still haven’t had a chance to watch the match from this past weekend. But now that the international break is on, there’ll be plenty of time for a report and analysis before Werder are back to business.

Lately there have been rumblings about English Premier League side Liverpool being interested in our very own super in-form Aaron Hunt. There have been other rumors that they’d be interested in shipping Dutch striker Ryan Babel to us in exchange for Hunt. To which I say: pshaw, as if, whatever, all those sort of ’90s phrases.

Okay, to be honest, I haven’t seen much of Babel. I am staunchly anti-Liverpool and don’t particular enjoy watching them if I don’t have to. Babel doesn’t start many matches, which is why he’s aching for a move away from Merseyside. Hunt has become a regular starter for the Green-Whites. I just don’t see this happening, especially if our Aaron keeps performing well as he’s been doing, because each goal just puts his value up higher.

So should Werder get rid of one of their proven best players this season to bring in another youngster who could potentially be great/awful – and perhaps some extra money?

Doesn’t Hunt’s contract end next summer? Why wouldn’t Liverpool just sign him then for free or are they desperate to get rid of Babel?

Given that Özil has also ended talks about a contract extension, Bremen might end up facing a situation where they lose Hunt and realistically have to sell Özil to get anything for him and need to rebuild yet again…

It would be Allof’s masterpiece if he managed to extent the contracts of both players, because then Bremen will have a fantastic offense for seasons to come and could focus on e.g. signing a quality fullback for a change.

Good points, Jan. I was ranting without realizing when Hunt’s contract was up – if Werder did want to get the most out of the deal then, we’d sell him in January. I think Babel is the one who wants out of Liverpool, because he wants regular first-tema play to break into the Dutch World Cup squad.

Honestly, I just don’t want to see a Werder lad playing for Liverpool ;)

I really hope we can get Hunt and Özil to sign extensions… Özil has stepped in so well for Diego, it would be a shame to lose him so soon after Diego. GET ON IT, KLAUS.
