The Resurrection
By: Brian | May 19th, 2008
Greetings from the Werder Offside. We have indeed returned.
I have recently been granted the privilege of piloting this ship into the future, taking over for its previous captain, whose whereabouts are unknown to me.
As a matter of introduction, my name is Brian Butler, a citizen of both Germany and the United States. I currently reside in the eastern portion of The Midwestern USA after walking the earth like Caine. The maternal half of my family comes from Northwest Germany and have been green-white for generations. Needless to say, I didn’t have a whole lot of options in which club I supported. It was always going to be Werder, the club for people who like herring and one touch passing, and have no patience for things like 0-0 draws and any semblance of defensive organization. Well, recently at least.
If forced to choose, my favorite player of all time would indeed be Johan Micoud. Or Dieter Eilts. Or Horst-Dieter Höttges. Depends on who is asking. My favorite goal of all time would be Ailton’s on May 8th, 2004. My favorite shirt of all time is probably the 98/99 white top. And Neu! is most likely my favorite band of all time, German or otherwise.
Looking forward to this endeavor. I can’t wait to hit the ground running - previewing the upcoming big matches, breaking down the goals, talking about…oh, what’s that? The season’s over you say? No matches for a while, huh? So four straight months of Diego transfer rumors it is then.

Hello and welcome!
Good to see there are more and more Bundesliga Offside blogs (and now I won’t be the “new one” any more
)…and I still have a crush on Werder’s playing style, anyway.

Hey Brian, welcome to The Offside. Looking forward to all the Diego rumours, can’t wait.
I’ve got some tracks by Neu! in my iTunes library, though I don’t listen to them often enough to make a knowledgeable comment here. I’ll restrict that to Werder’s football.

Thanks for the warm greeting everyone. Should be an interesting offseason, at least for all of the teams represented here.
