Werder - Hansa preview
By: Arian | November 2nd, 2007
So… four won games in a row at home and it’s likely that, after Saturday, they will be five. Hansa are a team that strong teams like Werder are expected to beat. It is needless to say that these kind of teams should be won in order to keep up with Bayern.
Standings…
1. Bayern - 27pts
2. Hamburger SV - 23pts
3. Werder - 21pts
4. Karlsruher SC - 20pts
5. Schalke 04 - 18pts
———————
14. Hansa Rostock - 11pts
Well it’s not bad. It’s only a six point difference. The only sketchy thing is that the team that is six points ahead of us is Bayern. Because Bayern is pretty tough to bring down.
Loosing Frings is a loss for us. A big one. He’s the spine of the team (What’s Diego, eh? -Diego is the brain). So I have no doubts that other players will do their job nicely, but still, loosing Frings is bad. Sanogo’s injury isn’t as bad as it seemed. So he’ll be back for Hansa. But I doubt he’ll get a lot of playing time.
Probable formations…
Werder 4-3-1-2: Wiese; Pasanen, Mertesacker, Naldo, Tosic; Baumann, Andreasen, Borowski; Diego; Rosenberg, Almeida
Hansa* 4-4-2: Wächter, Langen, Sebastian, Orestes, Stein, Rydlewicz, Rathgeb, Bülow, Rahn, Agali, Kern
* - Taken from Goal.com (and it doesn’t quite sound/seem right…).
Tradition…
Only one point for Hansa in the last 5 games. The last one (30.01.2005) finished 3:2. I don’t see Hansa getting anything from this one either. Way too weak for a team like Werder.
Their key player is Kern and somebody may recall that he had an unsuccessful adventure in Werder in 2002 and 2002. He’s currently the top scorer of the team. He scored two goals (damn he’s good…).
So make some popcorns, sit back and watch as Werder destroys Hansa.
Enjoy!

Bad news regarding Frings. He won’t be available until next year. I think Werder can currently cope quite well without Frings, but only as long as Diego is fit. So he shouldn’t pick up any injuries until Christmas, if Werder want to keep their Champions League and title ambitions alive.

I am often wondering, how long can Diego continue like this? I mean, he’s a monster. Does everything with the ball, has unlimited creativity and everytime he plays, he gives 101%.
As for Frings, Yes it’s bad but I would like to see Carlos Alberto on that spot. See what he can do there.

Well, the ‘good’ thing is, that he’s only second choice to Kaka and Ronaldinho in Brazil’s national team, so he can relax a bit during the international break. And he hasn’t been particularly injury prone.
I’m looking forward to see a bit more of Carlos Alberto too.
