So this is a “To be or not to be” game for Werder. This game should be won for two reasons, psychological and because only a miracle could get them through to the next phase if they don’t win this.
So… what’s there to say about the opponent?
Weeeeeeeeell… They don’t shine in Serie A. Every game is a story for itself. They don’t have a constant form and are currently 13th. Only 4 points is the gap between them and the relegation zone.
Delio Rossi usually puts up a 4-3-1-2 formation and I don’t think he’ll change it just for tonight. Their defense sucks. They have a grandpa between the posts who has reflexes of a dead horse. That is because their precious Lotito who is hated even by his own fans (and not to mention the opposing ones), didn’t manage to find a decent replacement for retiring Peruzzi. Their most dangerous player is (even though I hate to say this because even though he is from Macedonia I don’t quite like him much) Goran Pandev. He’s a monster. He’s currently top scorer of Lazio with 6 goals. Goran has a sense for goals. So he’s the one Naldo and Mertesacker should watch out for. Their midfield is weakened because both Mauri and Ledesma are injured. If Firmani and Del Nero don’t do their job, then Lazio’s hope will be Behrami who is a decent crosser so he could do the job and distribute the ball to the strikers. And trust me Pandev knows how to use them.
- This is my probable formation for Lazio because I couldn’t find a trustworthy formation on the internet…
Ballotta
Behrami – Stendardo – Cribari – Zauri
Mudingayi – Del Nero – Mutarelli
Firmani (Pandev)
Makinwa (or Rocchi) – Grande Pandev
- As far as our green and white heroes are concerned…
Wiese
Pasanen – Mertesacker – Naldo – Tosic
Vranjes – Frings – Borowski
Diego
Sanogo – Rosenborg
- Fritz is hurt (foot and ankle), Hunt, Baumann and Carlos Alberto are also out and Almeida, Owomoyela and Wome are doubtful.
Next Bundesliga game is quite important. Schalke away. So Schaaf should watch what he’s doing.
Enjoy the game.
