Werder stunning comeback!

By: Jackson | February 26th, 2009

Down by two goals with only thirty minutes remaining the Green Whites stunned a smallish crowd at San Siro to play AC Milan to a 2-2 draw. With the result, Werder advances to the next round and will now face Saint-Etienne of Ligue 1.

After falling behind 2-0 on Andrea Pirlo and Alexandre Pato first half goals, it appeared Werder was headed for a sad ending. However after the break Werder was attacking relentlessly and eight minutes past the hour Diego’s free kick into the area was nodded in by Claudio Pizarro to make it 2-1. Ten minutes later the miracle comeback continued as Sebastian Boenisch was headed in by Pizza to level the match. Although ahead by the aggregate, Werder came close to finding the outright winner but the match ended without further score, sending Thomas Schaaf’s club forward.

I didn’t believe the score line until I saw the highlights. Well played.

So, now, what is going to happen on Sunday with Bayern? The same old story, or is there going to be a new beginning?
