Match Report
Europa League: Werder Bremen 2 – 0 Austria Wien
By: Jamie |I was prepared to sit and enjoy the match – really, I was. I’m sure it’s frustrating to come here and see me continually saying “I wasn’t able to watch the match,” but it happened once again. I could not find a stream to watch Werder, so for the second Europa League matchday in a [...]
Three points amidst a sea of draws
By: Jamie |First, can I say, of course – of COURSE – Marko Marin finally manages to grab the Bundesliga goal he has deserved for over a month – when I’m not able to watch! Oh, life.
Second, well done Werder, for being the only team in the top four to pull of a rather emphatic win. [...]
A Tale of Two Werders
By: Jamie |The tradition that Werder seems to be keeping in Europe is to take a decent lead against the opponents, then give up a goal or two, but still manage to emerge with three points. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case today against Austria Wien. The Green-Whites took the lead through a first-half Pizarro brace and probably [...]
Europa League: Werder 3 – 1 Athletic Bilbao
By: Jamie |The Green-Whites move to the top of Group L with a great win over their La Liga opponents. I felt a bit inspired at half-time, put together my thoughts, then continued writing as the second half progressed. So bear with me; here’s my as-the-match-happens blog:
First half thoughts:
Aaron Hunt’s goal – fantastic. Oh man. You can’t [...]
Weekend round-up
By: Jamie |Thank you, Werder, for breaking this streak of 0-0 draws that you were threatening to continue. It took over half an hour, but the goals started flowing on Sunday against Mainz. 3-0 to the Green-Whites with two lads in fine form lately getting the goals: Hunt scored the opener and Pizarro bagged a brace.
And that’s [...]
DFB-Pokal: Werder Squeak by St. Pauli
By: Jamie |Well, typical Werder were back today – for better or worse, narrowly beating St. Pauli 2-1. But at least the Green-Whites came away with the win, considering how many HUGE upsets there were in the Pokal today! Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Hertha? Wow.
Observations:
1. Did someone wake Torsten up in the middle of his nap to play [...]
Hark! Pizarro Saves the Day
By: Jamie |Before this match, looking at the starting line-up, I remember thinking “Pizarro has been kind of quiet the last couple of matches”… so what a time to pop up with a brace, eh? We needed an 85th-minute Claudio goal to sneak by Nacional with a score of 2-3 and take three points.
I was only able [...]
Hertha 2 – 3 Werder.
By: Jamie |First, I’d like to thank the football gods for providing me with ESPN360, as I missed the live broadcast but was able to easily watch the replay later. Unfortunately, they’re only airing the Bundesliga in Spanish, which I don’t speak, so I watched the match with a soundtrack of the Hold Steady. It was [...]
